About me

I have been producing fractal art for well over 20 years now, from the early days of the psychedelic mandelbrots through the computer explosion to now, where advanced tools and processing power allow me to produce large format high detail images far removed from the early days.

My inspirations come from many places, I love the use of light found in Turner paintings and the colours found in the impressionists, but obviously there is a lot of the abstract in my work, along with themes of nature and beauty.

Creating the art

I mainly use software called Apophysis 7x to produce the art. This is a Fractal Flame software where images are built up of elements which interact to produce chaotic pictures. This is an entirely deterministic process, though there is a lifetime of work to master it. In many ways I consider myself a journeyman at the software, though a master in some areas.

In the end though, the important thing is the art. The process is just a means to an end and I think the results are exceptional.

The colour palettes are hand made by me, allowing me to further explore the use of light and colour.

Themes and ideas.

The most obvious theme that runs through my work is one of nature and the emotions it elicits. This, with a study of light and glows can often produce breathtaking images.

Other themes include complex geometric designs, bringing order out of the chaos along with 'true' abstract designs, which aim to bring individual images and feeling belonging to each observer alone.

Producing the final work.

Each piece is designed from the start to be a work of art displayed on a wall. To this end colour matched monitors and printers with the correct profiles are very important so the printed image is how the artist conceived it.

To this end I use theprintspace to produce the final art work.

Using dedicated fine art paper and the latest fine art Giclée inks each print is of the finest quality. You really can buy with confidence.
